I
know most people don’t use landline phones anymore but this is for those who
do.
Most
homes in India have an ADSL connection as their source of internet. and most of
them have more than one phone connected in parallel to this line. Usually homes
have the telephone wiring done at the time of construction and is wired to
provide parallel connections of one or two phone lines to all the rooms.
This
causes a lot of problems if you are going to use an ADSL router in one room and
the phone in another. An ADSL filter needs to be applied before sending the
signals to a telephone. If this is not done, the digital and analog signals
will be mixed up causing disturbances for both the internet as well as the
telephone especially while using both devices.
I have seen these devices setup in the wrong manner at most places.

There
is just one simple rule. make sure that there is an ADSL filter upstream for
every telephone. Either that, or split the internet and telephone lines right
at the entry point to your house.
ADSL splitters usually have an outlet for a “modem” and a “telephone”. you can connect many telephones in parallel on the “telephone” outlet and only one ADSL modem on the “modem” outlet.

So,
a simple 2-phone, 1-modem setup should look as follows:
An RJ-11 splitter is nothing but a small box that splits yours phone connection into 2 parallel parts. you could just wire it up too.
At many places that i have seen, the phone lines get split before the ADSL splitter and that causes unwanted noise and drop in speeds
