Dr Kalam was rushed to the hospital after he suddenly collapsed at a function in Shillong.
Dr Kalam served as the President on India from 2002 to 2007.
Known as the ‘Missile Man of India’, Dr Kalam spent forty years of his life as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
He was involved in India’s civilian space program and was renowned for his work on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology.
He also played a pivotal role in India’s Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998. Known for a simplistic lifestyle, he received several prestigious awards, including India’s highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna.
